H A Y A T

435 Children = 435 Trees

During the last two years we were also engaged in several smaller events to promote our ideas and intentions for the bigger projects that are yet to come. The "Tree planting Initiative" back in 2011 was one of those events:

We, the art and evironmental association the ARTEMIS Project, organized on the 26th May 2011 with the children of the elementary school, Kemal Durmaz Gümüslük, a mutual planting event of tree seeds.

True to the motto „Children plant Future“ we spread seeds of the St. John's-bread tree. The children were supposed to find a personal wish that unites them with the tree seed. Afterwards the wishlist and the seed were commonly planted in the soil of a flowerpot and each of them were given a unique name. Every child  took his own St. John's-bread tree back to his home and will take care for it within the next months.

Within the following months, all the grown up offshoots will be planted together with the children and Forestry Office Bodrum in „Yokusbasi“ in free nature. Every child remains the carer for his own tree and therefore actively participates at our international climate protection.

This event would not have been possible without the outstanding help of principal Mehmet Özbay of the elementary school, Kemal Durmaz Gümüslük, and Mr. Önder of the Forestry Office Bodrum.

Thanks very much,

Welcome - the ARTEMIS Project 2013

First, you may think: why has it been so quite here? Throughout the last couple of months we have been facing several obstacles that turned out to be more time consuming and challenging than we originally planned. Finally, we have some good news: Our recent environmental Project in Turkey keeps growing.

The Process

During the last one and a half year we spent countless hours on discussing with officials, networking with other NGO's and looking for further funding opportunities for our current Project in Turkey.
But one barrier proved to be the most demanding (and to be honest, also the most tiring): We were dealing with bureaucratic barriers that turned out to be extremely complex and exhausting.

After several appointments with officials in Ankara, it seems that all the energy we invested in this process will have a positive reward:
The situation looks promising! We are looking forward to realise the final practical phase of our project this spring 2013, by then offically legitimised by the authorities in Ankara.

Hayat Life Forest 2013

You may wonder what kind of thing has been the main motivation for taking all these bureaucratic procedures?
Basically, we want to establish an environmentally educational, social and artistic permaculture Project – An
6 ha bisophere reserve right in the heart of Turkey. But we do not consider us to be the main actors of this undertaking. It's the children, the upcoming generations that sooner or later going to take responsibility for the legacy we are going to leave to them.

We are aiming at creating an atmosphere of both learning and sharing, a place that is strongly connected with a natural environment with all the necessary elements one needs to be able to thrive - same as a plant needs a futile ground in order to flourish as trees need a good soil in order to grow -

During the next couple of weeks we are going to share our ideas, current developments and the environmental Situation in Turkey with you on this Blog.

Stay tuned – Thank you!
